Date: October 21, 2026
Clare Lewis is a widely recognized Virginia corporate attorney, representing clients across the full arc of dealmaking — from early-stage companies and family offices to Fortune 50 enterprises. She has earned recognition from Virginia Business Magazine as a “Legal Elite” in Corporate Counsel/Administrative/Government and from Best Lawyers in America as a “One to Watch” in Mergers and Acquisitions Law, along with The M&A Advisor’s Emerging Leader Award.

Ms. Lewis represents independent sponsors, private equity and venture capital fund investors, and emerging growth and middle market companies in mergers and acquisitions, equity financings, corporate governance, fund formations and other specialized matters. Her experience spans nearly every side of a transaction — companies, investors, lenders, and both financial and strategic buyers and sellers — giving her clients an advisor who has seen a deal from every angle.

She also advises emerging-growth and early-stage companies, particularly in the technology space, and routinely works with institutional investors, private equity funds, independent sponsors, venture capitalists, angel investors and family offices across all levels of the capital stack. Her middle market deal work reaches technology, crypto and blockchain, financial services, energy, healthcare, life sciences, distribution, retail, and food and beverage, among other industries.

Ms. Lewis holds the CIPP/US certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and is fluent in French.
Beyond her practice, Ms. Lewis is active nationally through service on the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section Mergers and Acquisitions Committee, which publishes the ABA Deal Points Studies. In the Virginia legal community, she is a member of the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council Membership Committee, a lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law, and a member of the University of Virginia Alumni Association.

“I work closely with my clients — whether an early-stage company, a family office or a Fortune 50 company — on a wide range of corporate matters,” said Ms. Lewis. “Whiteford is a growing, full-service firm with reach not only in the Commonwealth but also across the East Coast and nationally.
