Former Assistant US Attorney James B. Gatehouse Joins Whiteford in Charlotte
Date: May 19, 2025
“Brad is an immensely talented lawyer with an impressive record of successfully handling a wide range of matters for the federal government,” said Managing Partner Martin Fletcher. “He will be an invaluable asset to our clients not only in North Carolina but nationally. We are delighted that he has chosen to join us for this next chapter in his career.”
In his role as an Assistant US Attorney in the Western District of North Carolina, Mr. Gatehouse managed a broad range of civil defense litigation on behalf of federal officers and agencies and had substantial experience defending Federal Tort Claims Act and Bivens actions, notably wrongful death and medical malpractice, as well as employment discrimination matters. He also had over two years of affirmative civil enforcement experience, primarily False Claims Act investigations.
Commenting on his move, Mr. Gatehouse added, “My time in public service has been a great experience and the chance to undertake it was a true privilege. Rejoining private practice at a firm with Whiteford’s practice and reputation is an amazing opportunity. I look forward to working with colleagues throughout the firm and continuing its tradition of client-driven excellence.”
Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2020, Mr. Gatehouse was a partner in a Charlotte law firm handling all manner of business litigation, including securities litigation, corporate dissolution and receivership, shareholder disputes, debtor-creditor and guaranty litigation, non-compete litigation, antitrust and bankruptcy adversary proceedings. In private practice and government service, he served as lead counsel in multiple trials in federal and state courts.
